Who are you and what are you here for?
I am a guy that has spent a large part of my life studying teams, organizations and leaders. I believe that as much as we think we have progressed, we still fail to tap into the true potential of people authentically working together. Some of this has to do with a fundamentally flawed ideal of leadership, some of this has to do with our capacity for real communication and some of this has to do with our not fully understanding the lenses through which we view each other.
I am here because I know that we can do better and I want to be a part of people, teams, organizations and communities tapping into their real potential.
What does "Talent Anarchy" mean to you?
It means that everything is in flux right now. There are no constants, only variables. The workforce is changing (in many ways), the workplace is changing, our opportunities for competitive advantage are changing. The real problem is that the way that we are developing leaders and organizations has not kept up with these changes. Our understanding of leadership is antiquated and our approach to development is largely ineffective. That is where we come in.
Professional highpoint?
After spending a challenging year restructuring, recruiting and training; having the pleasure of working with a diverse, creative, passionate and synergistic team. Powerful experience. I think that it is a rare experience, and that is unfortunate.
Professional lowpoint?
That is hard because when I look back on things, I think everything has been valuable for me to experience, both the good and the bad. I guess emotionally the lowpoint was when I realized that I had gone to work for the wrong organization.
What keeps you up at night?
Gillian Mae Gerstandt. She is almost a year old, is going to be walking any day now...and sometimes she keeps me up at night.
What is unique about what you bring to this work?
There is only one brain on this planet that functions like mine does. For better or worse. And since I have it, we might as well put it to use.
Last good book?
The Lucifer Effect. Very nice.
